The situation lasted until the end of the 80-es, was absolutely impossible in Communist Russia even to think about the biker’s movement, although the bikes always were one of the most affordable and popular transport given the impassability of Russian roads. Modern biker’s movement derives from badlyorganized (and lacking in an ideology) youngsters on bikes. They were named “rockers”. They first appeared in big cities in the middle 80’s. There were thousands of them, the boys of about 15 who bought Russian or Czech bike from their parents’ money. But when Perestroika began in Russia, the economic conditions changed and the “rockers” disappeared. Only those remained who had really loved the bike. Now you could meet hundred motorcycles on the road from cheapest to exclusive (sometime you could see “a big boss” riding the bike surrounding his bodyguards).
